New Hike and Backpack Leader Seminar - Private Residence

For prospective Family hiking and backpacking leaders. This is to supplement the general training for hike leaders. We will also be planning a hiking and mentoring schedule.

6:30-8:30 at the home of Dixie Havlak in west Olympia

Address will be sent out the day before.

A light meal will be served. Feel free to bring food to complement minestrone soup---salad, bread, veggie or fruit, dessert. Hot beverages provided.

Participants should have attended the hike leader seminar listed for February 21 if possible.  Completing the Youth Qualified badge before this is also desirable but not required.

This class will present the special leadership needs of a family hike leader.  Although we will not be discussing backpacking specifically, the family hike leader qualification is required before becoming a backpacking leader.

Topics include:  scouting and selecting a hike, listing for a family hike, monitoring the roster, managing the hike for fun and safety, family 10 essentials, family hiking tips, hike leader resources,and more.

The last part of the meeting we will work to develop a calendar of family hikes and activities and to plug new leaders into mentoring opportunities.
