Basic Hiking Skills

This two-evening course will give you the basics you need for a lifetime of safe, successful, and rewarding days on our amazing trails. You will learn about finding hikes, choosing gear, avoiding common trail hazards, and hiking safely and courteously.

This course is designed for new hikers or for people who have hiked before but want to step up their game with an introduction to safe hiking in the Pacific Northwest.

We will cover how to find compatible hikes, common trail hazards, good preparation, gear and clothing,  Low Impact practices for protecting our trails and wild places, and trail etiquette.

Experienced hike leaders will be on hand with their favorite hiking gear essentials to show and demonstrate.  We will also provide resources for trail selection and additional training options.
