RWGPS Route: Canon Beach to Point Meriwether, out-and-back

You must find your own accommodations. Recommendation is The Retreat at Cannon Beach.

Some people will be eating at Anna's Table on Friday the 17th at 5:00. Let the leader know if you want to be included in the reservation.

There will be several rides. Day 2 will be an organized ride. The other days are open and flexible:

  • Day 1 4/16. Arrival day. Exploration riding to Haystack Rock or beyond and/or north of Ecola Creek.
  • Day 2 4/17. 11 mi round trip ride up to and possibly past Hug Point to Point Meriwether. Timing will depend primarily on wind and tides, which I haven't checked yet. It could be a very early ride depending on wind and tide and what the group desires. Will probably be a morning ride ending late morning or early afternoon.
  • Day 3 4/18. Open.
  • Day 4 4/19. Pack up. Meet for breakfast if desired and head home or continue on to the add-on trip 4/19-4/22, Oregon North Coast Fat Bike, South Beach OR.

Good places to eat:

  • Anna's Table. 188 S Hemlock St. High end quality, phenomenally good food. You'll want to make a reservation. Dinner with appetizer and non-alcoholic drink is in the range of $50-$75 as I recall and i think that included tip. Let the leader know if interested in joining the group on 4/17 at 5:00 for dinner at Anna's and I'll include you in the group reservation.
  • Ecola Seafoods. 208 N Spruce St. Excellent fresh seafood. Think Ivar's Fish Bar with more and fresher choices. Inside eating.
  • Pizza a'fetta. normal mid-grade to great pizza, depending on who the cooks are at the time. 231 N Hemlock St.
  • Mariner Market. More-or-less normal small-town grocery store in a beautiful rustic old building. 139 N Hemlock St.
  • Fresh Foods. Groceries. More choices, along the lines of QFC but much smaller. 3401 S Hemlock St. (S. Canon Beach)

If you have difficulty finding street parking in downtown Canon Beach. Public parking is available west of N Spruce St and south of E 2nd St (45.89802479780977, -123.95955272907129), south of the public restrooms that are on E 2nd St.

Meet at Whale Park at 100 3rd St (45.90015359661409, -123.96093536467231). Meeting time Is to be determined. I still need to look at the tide tables.

You can rent a fat bike a few miles from the campground from Bike Newport (541) 265-9917‬. See important details about that on the trip posting. Required Equipment

Required Equipment

  • Fat bike in good working order. Narrower tires allowed with leader approval. E-bikes not allowed.
  • The trips are day rides. Just bring lunch, hydration, snacks, etc. and car camping equipment as needed.
  • 10 essentials
  • Standard tool kit and accessories for maintenance, trouble, and safety
  • Be aware that the salt spray will get on your chain and make it rusty. This is not much of an issue but it can be very disappointing if you're not expecting it.
