It's Official: Public Lands Package Signed into Law!

Cross-country skiing in the Methow. Climbing at Exit 38. Hiking at Ebey’s Landing. There's nothing like the amazing landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, and thanks to your advocacy, they are more protected than ever!

On March 12, the President signed the public lands package into law. The final copy of the legislation was renamed the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, in honor of the late congressman and conservationist.

The package includes measures to protect the Methow Headwaters, designate the Mountains to Sound Greenway a National Heritage Area, and permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund. These causes, which The Mountaineers community has championed for years, are now officially signed into law!

(Please note that Congress still needs to fully fund the LWCF - stay tuned for more on this.)

Over the past few years, you all took action 5,237 times on behalf of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, Methow Headwaters, and/or the Mountains to Sound Greenway. Thank you for making your voice heard and staying the course!

Achievements like this require the constant voice of public lands champions. You all helped highlight the importance of the outdoor experience to legislators, and they listened – passing the largest public lands package in a decade! Washingtonians can take pride that our state’s entire delegation – all the House Representatives and both Senators – voted for this bill.

We also appreciate Senator Cantwell's championing the LWCF and the Pacific Northwest measures in the package, and the bipartisian work with her senate counterpart Senator Murkowski helped make all this possible.

There’s one last thing we can do to ensure future conservation successes: Thank your legislators for a job well done and for protecting public lands. Use the easy action tool below to send your representatives a note of appreciation.
