Seattle Branch John Muir Trail Section Hiker

A profile badge for backpacking the entire John Muir Trail in sections.

About The Award

A profile badge for backpacking the entire John Muir Trail between Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley and the summit of Mt. Whitney in sections.

How To Obtain

Backpack the entire John Muir Trail between the northern terminus in Yosemite Valley and the southern terminus on the summit of Mt. Whitney in sections. The trail can be done in as many sections as desired, however all sections must be overnight backpacking trips except for a maximum of 5 that can be done as day hikes.  The sections can be done in any order, and each section can be done in either direction (NOBO or SOBO).  Legs starting at the northern terminus in Yosemite Valley can begin at Happy Isles or any of the standard alternate SOBO starting trailheads, depending on the availability of permits.

Trips can be private with non-Mountaineers team members.  All trips must be done in accordance with Leave No Trace and in accordance with the policies of all relevant local land management agencies, including the use of valid permits, proper food storage and acceptable resupply practices, etc.

Contact

Contact the Seattle Backpacking Committee chair.  For each section include the starting and ending trailheads, starting and ending dates, and the names of the other people in your party.  If any sections were done as a Club trip, also include the leader’s name and branch.  Please list your sections geographically instead of chronologically, with adjacent sections next to each other.
