Sam Lightner Jr.


SAM LIGHTNER JR. is an internationally known rock climber with more than twenty years of climbing experience who has made first ascents of over 100 routes. He has appeared on the cover of Outside magazine, and he has written articles for Vertical, Rock and Ice, Climbing, Conde Naste Adventure Traveler, and American Alpine Journal, among other publications. His adventure narrative All Elevations Unknown: An Adventure in the Heart of Borneo (published by Random House imprint Broadway) received favorable reviews from USA Today, Kirkus Reviews, Deseret News, Explorers Club Book Review, and Outside magazine. Currently Lightner divides his time between Banff, Alberta; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and southern Thailand. He's become well-known in the Thailand climbing scene for his work putting up new routes and rebolting existing routes on the Phra Nang Peninsula; popular climbing website www.8a.nu recently called him "the man behind Railae Beach."
