Basic Crewing/Sailing Course - Tacoma, Training Sail #2

Field trip: Basic Crewing/Sailing Course

Basic Crewing/Sailing Course - Tacoma, Training Sail #2 - Whisper, Tyee Marina

Dockside training session for students of Tacoma's Basic Crewing/Sailing Course.

  • Easy
  • Mileage: 10.0 nm
  • Maximum Wind: 15 kts

Meet outside the Tyee Marina gate just before 2 pm, I will meet you there and use my gate pass to let you all in. We will proceed to Dock 3 area, park your car and lock it. We will all enter the dock gate together. There is also a porta-potty just outside the gate. All will be given the opportunity to use this porta-potty before departure, and there is a  head on the boat as well. We will then prepare the boat for departure, at approximately 3 pm.

We will sail the local waters approx. 2 to 3 hours and then return to the marina and put the boat away.

Bring your drink of choice and snacks to share. Be prepared for rain and cold temps. The temperature on the water can be 10 degrees colder than the land. Bring layers. Sunglasses, hat, wool socks, and non-marking and non-slip tennis shoes are preferred. The boat deck can get slippery when wet, and it is almost always wet. I have found the Sperry top-sider brand to be my favorite non-slip brand of shoe.

I can be reached by cell phone or text at (253) 678-0355

This is the second of two sails included in the Tacoma Branch's Basic Crewing/Sailing Course.  Students of the course should only sign up for one Training Sail #2 activity.

An outline of topics that will be covered during this training sail is shown below.  Please review the related material in your course text book before the sail and make sure you ask any questions necessary for you to understand the concept being covered.

Sail activities will take place rain or shine.  The activity may, however, be canceled due to high wind.  Call you skipper 1 hour before the start of the activity to make sure it is still a go.  Please show up on time.
