Tacoma Hiking & Backpacking Committee

Learn about the Tacoma Branch's Hiking & Backpacking Committee.

The Tacoma Branch Hiking & Backpacking Committee welcomes novice and experienced hikers and backpackers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities who want to enjoy a sense of community and shared adventure. Our outings are led by skilled and experienced Mountaineers whose goals are the safety and enjoyment of the whole team. We provide personalized coaching and instruction for beginners at our Intro to Hiking Seminar  each Spring. In April 2020, we will offer our annual Introduction to Backpacking Course. During the summer months, we offer a variety of car camps.  We offer an evening Trail Emergency Preparedness Seminar for those interested in brushing up on basic first aid.  For more experienced participants, the Branch offers challenging opportunities to develop skills in Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness Navigation, and Outdoor Leadership.

Hikes are led year round.  Check out our calendar to see our upcoming hikes and events.

We encourage a strong conservation ethic and we incorporate Leave No Trace practices in all our outings.
