The Tacoma Hiking & Backpacking Committee welcomes novice and experienced hikers and backpackers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities who want to enjoy a sense of community and shared adventure.

Hiking

Our hikes are led year round by skilled and experienced Mountaineers whose goals are the safety and enjoyment of the whole team.  Hikes of  all difficulties are are available and we require the  10 essentials on all day hikes. 

This year we are excited to offer two new courses in Tacoma.  Our Conditioning Hiking Series will open for registration 1/15/2021, and Geology Rocks! will open for registration 2/1/2021.

Enjoy overnight backpacking trips with a group of like minded travelers.  We offer single and multi-night trips as well as an Introduction to Backpacking Course beginning each April.

Trail Emergency Preparedness

We offer an evening Trail Emergency Preparedness Seminar for those interested in brushing up on basic first aid. 

For more experienced participants, the Tacoma Branch offers challenging opportunities to develop skills in Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness Navigation, and Outdoor Leadership

Activities and Events

 We offer quarterly events to give members time to socialize and meet new people.  Check our our upcoming events HERE

In the Summer,  we offer Car Camping.  We camp overnight in a campground and hike during the day in the surrounding area. This is a great way to camp comfortably and enjoy the company of fellow Mountaineers.
