Bikepacking Fix-a-flat clinic

Bikepacking Fix-a-flat clinic

Bikepackers: Fix a flat clinic (for tires with tubes) This clinic is open to any Mountaineers members.

Strategies and techniques to limit the risks and to fix a flat on a bike with non-tubeless wheels. Bring your own bike and whatever tools & supplies you take along when you go riding (if you're comfortable taking off and putting back both front or rear wheel, you can just bring in a wheel.) The presentation will be followed by a hands-on session where you will get your hands dirty, and will experience the perils and tribulations of replacing a tube on very your own pride and joy. Dress for success (that is, be ready to get greasy. Shop apron and surgical gloves can come in handy.)

AFTER COMPLETION OF THIS CLINIC, THE STUDENT WILL:

  • Understand the different parts of a wheel and tire, their functions, their names, as well as the various standards used for sizing tires and tubes.
  • Know what tools and spare parts are required to fix a flat tire.
  • Understand the common causes for flats, and the best practices to help prevent a flat.
  • Know and have practiced how to replace a tube to fix a flat tire.
  • Note:
    • this course is NOT aimed at users of tubeless tires, but it can still come in handy when facing a puncture that cannot be fixed, and one needs to use a tube;
    • the handout reviews how to patch a tube, but we will only practice this skill if there’s enough time left in the class.

Clinic with start promptly at 6:30, ends at 9:00.
