Summer Camp - Teen Backpacking

3-night backpack for teens in Goat Rock Wilderness!

This backpacking trip wanders through some of the most stunning alpine and sub alpine environments in Washington. Snowy peaks, alpine lakes, and granite spires- we'll see it all! This camp is open to campers ages 14 to 17 and includes transportation, food, and group gear. Campers are expected to carry their personal gear and some of the group gear. No prior backpacking experience is required, but campers should be comfortable with the physical demands of the mileage listed below.

DAY ONE: 4.5 MILES, 1,300 FT ELEVATION

Campers will arrive at the Seattle Program Center on Tuesday morning at 8am. After introductions, a gear check, and a group meeting, we will load the cars and hit the road! We will hike 4.5 miles to our first camp at Snowgrass Flats. We'll spend the evening making dinner, playing games, and hanging out at camp.

DAY TWO: 5.5 MILES, 2,000 FT ELEVATION

We'll ditch our heavy packs for lighter day packs and make a side trip up to the magnificent Old Snowy Mountain. Up top we'll have 360 degree views of Mount Adams, Mount St Helens, and Mount Rainier- a triple threat! We'll camp another night at Snowgrass Flats.

DAY THREE: 4.5 MILES, 1,300 FT ELEVATION

After breakfast and packing up camp, we'll continue on towards Goat Lake. The trail crests the ridgeline into the alpine meadows and through snowy peaks. We'll make camp in Jordan Basin, enjoy the views, make dinner, and hang out at camp.

DAY FOUR: 3 MILES, 350 FT ELEVATION

On our last day, we will say goodbye to our alpine home and make the descent out to the trailhead. We will arrive back at the Seattle Program Center by 3:30pm.
