Summer Camp - Backpacking

Introductory 2-night backpack to Baker Lake in the Mount Baker Wilderness!

This relatively flat trail hugs the eastern shore of Baker Lake, with views of glaciated Mount Baker and Shuksan along the way. We'll spend two nights on the trail, taking in the views, swimming, and learning backcountry skills. This camp is open to campers ages 10 to 14 and includes transportation, food, and group gear. Campers are expected to carry their personal gear and some of the group gear.

Day one: 4 miles, 500ft elevation

Campers will arrive at the Seattle Program Center on Wednesday morning at 9am. After introductions, a gear check, and a group meeting, we will load the cars and hit the road! We will hike to Maple Grove Campground where we'll set up camp and spend the evening swimming in the lake, cooking a camp dinner, and playing games.

day two: dAY HIKE, 3-7 miles, ~1,000ft elevation

On day two, we'll trade our heavy packs for day packs and head out for a day hike continuing along the shoreline towards Noisy Creek Campground. We'll decide as a group where to stop for lunch and turn around back to our camp for hanging out and swimming opportunities at Maple Grove. The field staff will choose an appropriate mileage for the day based off of the group.

Day three: 4 miles, 500 ft elevation

Campers will wake up, help cook a hearty breakfast, break camp, and hike out to the trailhead. We will arrive back at the Seattle Program Center by 3pm.
