Seattle MAC Alpine Climb - Mount Rainier/Emmons Glacier

For this trip we will require that you have done at least one alpine climb before the trip.

  • Participants along with leaders must be able to comfortably hike ~12 miles a day with a 25-30lb pack, including sustained uphill travel of 6,000 feet elevation gain in a day over mixed terrain (trail, snow, rock).
  • Participants will need to purchase a climbing permit.

Prerequisites: 

For alpine rock climbs:

Skills/workshops: Multi-pitch systems, belay escape, rappelling, lead climbing / lead belaying

Other courses/trips: Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course/badge, Leavenworth Multi-Pitch trip / successful multi-pitch climb, Summer Trip / successful muti-pitch climb there

If glacier climb: In addition to all of the above: Crevasse rescue workshop, glacier climbing fundamentals (at least 2), Snow 1, Snow 2

In addition the technical skills described above, participants joining this trip may be asked to describe the physical preparations they have undertaken - this may include conditioning hikes, other easier climbs, weekly training routines, etc.
