This field trip will give you the chance to practice using all your senses and tools, to appreciate and to identify flowers, trees,  and ferns. You'll learn to use your charts, tree & flower apps, and field guides. This field trip is an additional offering for INW participants that were unable to attend prior field trips in April 2024.

We hope to  concentrate on common species and understand more about their role in lowland forests and other ecosystems represented in different areas of the garden.

This Native Plant Demonstration Garden is a collaborative project between the Green Seattle Partnership, The Mountaineers and the Washington Native Plant Society. The area was transformed from a blackberry hillside and asphalt parking lot into a lush demonstration garden with walking paths, basalt seating rocks, and educational signage. This field trip will give you the chance to study flowers, trees, and ferns in a relatively small area with a diverse collection of plants from many different ecosystems/niches found in Washington State.  It is a great place to practice using your tree & flower apps, and field guides as  most of the 172 native plants are labeled.

We will meet at the Mountaineers Native Demonstration Garden Sign in Magnuson Park, southeast of the Seattle Mountaineers Program Center near the climbing wall.  Enter Magnuson Park at the 74th St entrance. Turn left at 63rd Ave NE. Turn left again at NE 77th St, and look for the Mountaineers Garden on your left as the road curves. Park in the lot on the right.

Please arrive promptly at 5:00pm. We will be finished at 7:15pm

No restrooms are available so please plan accordingly.
