CHS 2 Hike

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Grand Prospect

We will hike to the Grand Prospect lookout on the Rattlesnake Mountain trail and venture a little beyond (a few tenths of a mile) to a great view of Mt. Rainier. We will also stop at Stan’s Overlook, about one hour into the hike, for a short break. A CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-3.0 mph)

  • Mileage: 9.8 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,100 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-2.5 mph

Please meet at the Rattlesnake Mountain Trail Parking Lot no later than 7:45 a.m. We plan to be on the trail by 8:00 a.m. The large parking lot has an outhouse. Discovery Pass is required.

Directions: Take I-90 east to Exit 27. At the end of the off-ramp, go right onto Winery Road. Turn right into the parking lot in .3 miles (there will be an open gate). Please note there is another parking lot (Snoqualmie Point) further down Winery Road. Be sure to turn right into the first parking lot, not Snoqualmie Point.

Gear: We hiked this trail in mid-April, and there was quite a bit of snow starting about halfway up. With our nice weather, much of this should be melted, but there will likely be snow at the top. Please bring micro-spikes if possible. We expect the trail to be quite muddy so boots over trail runners are a good idea.

COVID 19: Please remember to follow all of the required COVID protocols. You must have the required face covering (mask, neck gaiter, bandana) and hand sanitizer in your possession to participate in this hike. The face covering must be able to cover the mouth and nose when we pass close to others. Be prepared to step off the trail or turn outward when passing other hikers and maintain social distancing. Carpooling is limited to household members.
