We will cover winter hazards and weather, winter aliments, a brief introduction to avalanche awareness, winter recreation etiquette.

Join the zoom between 6:15 and 6:25, so we can start at 6:30.

In this introductory lecture, shared with the Olympia Basic Snowshoe course, we will cover the hazards of traveling on snow in the mountains in winter and how to do so safely. 

Topics include:

  • Winter hazards such as cold, snow and ice, rain, storms, terrain, weather basics
  • Winter ailments such as frostbite and hypothermia
  • Introduction to avalanche awareness and safety
  • Winter recreation etiquette  and leave no trace principles
