Mount Ellinor is a 6,000’ high peak located in the southeast Olympic Mountains. It supports a variety of habitat types with a diverse assemblage of plant communities and species, including an array of species endemic to the Olympic Mountains. Dave and Joanne Schuett-Hames are biologists with background in salmonid habitat, conservation biology, and plant ecology. They have hiked and backpacked extensively in the Olympic Mountains, and worked as volunteers with Olympic National Park as Wilderness Rangers and doing surveys for the Olympic Marmot monitoring project. They’ve made many visits to Mt. Ellinor, including leading Washington Native Plant Society, and Mountaineers field trips. Their botanical interests on Mt. Ellinor include developing and maintaining plant lists for the Mt. Ellinor trail network on the WNPS website, collecting specimens for the Burke Herbarium, and assisting with the Rare Care plant monitoring program.
Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at the McLane Fire Station at 125 Delphi Road NW, Olympia or remotely via Zoom. The seminar presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Attendees can be a part of the audience in person at the fire station or via Zoom (link to be sent to registered participants prior to the event). The meeting room at the McLane Fire Station that is reserved for us has a maximum capacity of thirty people.
This summer, Dave and Joanne plan to lead an in-person hike up Ellinor to search for and view some of the species featured in their presentation. Participants of this seminar will be given first choice in signing up for the hike (about 6 miles and 3000+ feet of elevation gain).
