Snow Trek and Lunch 2022 - Meany Lodge

Snowshoe from Crystal Springs Sno-Park to Meany Lodge for a hot lunch at the lodge on Saturdays this winter. Routes vary, typically 7+ miles round-trip and 550 feet elevation gain.

Departs Saturday 8:30 AM from the Crystal Springs Sno-park, in Lot #1 - the first lot on the left, the non-motorized day-use lot (map of the Sno-Park).  You will need at least a one day sno-park pass or an Annual Sno-Park with Groomed Trails Sticker. You can purchase a day-use permit or an Annual Snow-Park Pass with Groomed Trails  sticker online

There are sections of road on the way up to the pass that can be subject to strong wind gusts.

  Carpooling: Per our Board Policy, The Mountaineers does not officially facilitate carpools as a part of our programs. E-mails and carpool interest may found by clicking on “EMAIL ROSTER” on the roster tab of the event page. 

    Trip outline: Our route will vary based on conditions, group goals, and progress, but typically it is 3.5 miles in the morning from the sno-park to the lodge. The morning finishes up with about 500 feet of elevation gain.  Lunch will be soon after we reach the lodge. We will leave the Meany Campus around 12:30 PM, for the downhill snowshoe trek back to the parking lot, arriving between 4:00 and 5:00 PM. The return trip is similar distance but slightly different route. 

No previous snow-shoeing experience required, but you should be able to walk at least 8 miles at a medium pace.

The Trip Leader will send an email with more details to participants and those on the waiting-list  a week prior.

  Lunch:  Indicate in your sign-up any dietary restrictions. We can accommodate vegetarian and gluten-free diets.  Consider bringing your own food if you have restrictions beyond those.

  COVID Protocol: You must be fully vaccinated. E-mail your vaccination status to  meanycovidvax@outlook.com .

No one is required to wear a mask while we are outdoors. However, social distancing is suggested. And you are encouraged to wear a mask per your personal situation.

However, inside Meany Lodge you must wear a mask.

If you prefer to practice social distancing you can have lunch outdoors “alfresco” in the Zoo, an open-air maintenance shed that will be set up with tables and heaters.

Snowshoes is the only required gear using firm waterproof boots.  Suggested gear are  gaiters, layered clothing, hydration, snacks, hiking poles with snow baskets. The Trip Leader has two loaner snowshoes that can be reserved by indicating in the notes section of the on-line signup.
