Students will learn and practice crampon techniques for ascending/descending on ice, ice screw placement, V-threads, anchors, and swinging leads on 45-60 degree ice. 

9:00 AM ready to move at the Heliotrope Ridge Trailhead.

Required Equipment

  • Everything needed for an alpine rock climb (minus the rock protection)
  • Sharp 12 point steel crampons (no aluminum)
  • Ice tools (the club has several pairs available for borrowing)
  • v-thread tool
  • 4-5 feet of 7 mm nylon cord
  • 2-3 ice screws, including one 22 cm
  • All overnight gear
