0700 Alpental Lower Lot

Day 1 consists of hands on snow anchor, belaying, and emergency shelter construction. Day 2 is a tour of Alpental valley or nearby peak. This trip will run pending weather, snowpack, and avalanche conditions. The following weekend (28-29) is a backup weekend for this trip

Avalanche Rescue

  • Review of probing
  • Review of digging
  • Multiple burial scenarios

Anchors

  • Learn and practice traditional snow anchors, like vertical pickets, mid clip pickets, and t--slot pickets
  • Review of bollards
  • Learn/practice using non traditional anchors, like skis, backpacks, water bottles, etc

Belaying

  • Learn/practice methods of belaying a follower, including butt-axe belay, stomper belays

Snow Shelters

  • Practice building overnight snow shelters
