The Basic Snowshoeing Course offers an introduction to safe and enjoyable winter travel for the beginner. It is designed for people who want to get a taste of snowshoeing and pick up solid foundational skills. Topics of instruction will include selection and use of proper equipment, conditioning, what to rent, where to go, how to plan and evaluate snowshoe routes to avoid avalanche risk, winter travel, safety, and choosing an outing. Students will be eligible to participate in basic snowshoe tours with the confidence of having a foundation in winter travel. The class is at the Evergreen Middle School, 7621 Beverly Ln. Everett, WA 98203. The lectures are Wednesday January 7 and Wednesday January 21, and the field trip is Saturday January 24.

Course completion requires attendance of both lectures and the field trip: only those who attend both lectures are eligible for the field trip.

Field Trip: The field trip is held near Stevens Pass. Meet atMonroePark n Ride at 7:30am on Saturday, Jan. 24th to carpool up to the pass. Field trip will finish about 4pm, returning toMonroe around 5:30pm.
