This weekend students will continue to practice and consolidate the skills learned at the previous field trips.  We will continue to emphasize the fundamentals of a good rope protection system but shift these skills to a mulitpitch context. Students will build a hanging belay station and swing leads with a partner while on tope rope.  They will learn the importance of a 'Jesus Nut' to protect the anchor from a factor 2 fall.  The Jesus Nut will replace an omni as the first and most important single piece of protection in your system at hanging belays.

In addition to hanging belays, we will continue to build our leading confidence on the sharp end. Students will learn basic crack climbing technique and gain experience evaluating and exploiting basalt rock features. In addition to our fundamental focus on safety, we will further emphasize efficiency as we look ahead to climbing longer routes.

The main goals of this weekend are to build a hanging belay, swing leads and send more true leads.
