Status of Glaciers in Washington's National Parks

Dr. Riedel established a glacier monitoring program at North Cascades NP in 1993, and later expanded the program to Mt. Rainier NP in 2003 and Olympic NP in 2013. Measurements on eight index glaciers at these parks are focused on changes in glacial volume and glacial contribution to streamflow. In the presentation Jon will show images of glacial change spanning the last century, share results of the monitoring program, and conclude with an example of how the loss of glaciers impacts summer streamflow on the Skagit River.
