Yellow Aster Butte

Foggy, only local views, flowers above about 5,400', wet tread, no other scramblers and few hikers.

  • Yellow Aster Butte
  • Scrambling
  • Successful
  • Road rough but passable
  • A very good trail almost to the summit.  Tread was wet this day until we got above the heaviest of the fog.  I've done this trip several times and the best final approach is to stay high on the rock to the right just before the trees.  Climbing boot path continues on the other side of the trees.  In snow the ridge from the hiker's summit to the true summit could be very exciting.

FS road 3065 has biggggg potholes and the parking is limited.  Very pretty even in the fog, but no dramatic views this day.  Scramble section is only about 1% of the trip without snow, but is really a 2+ technically.  This trip is extremely popular and on nice weekends can be mobbed.  Our trip was 7.75 hours, 3,080' gross elev. and 8 miles.
