Winter Scramble - West Granite

Successful summit of West Granite.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Very muddy trail for the first 300-400 ft due to recent snow melt. Did hit continuous snow around 3500 ft but not enough for snowshoes until the last 400 ft below the summit. We encountered some very treacherous sections on the ridge due to boulders partial snow coverage making travel slippery and slow.

As a party of 9 we were planning to summit West Granite and Pratt as a combo. 8 of us ended up summitting West Granite while one person waited for us in the trees a few hundred feet below the summit. Due to slower than expected progress on West Granite and limited daylight we decided to skip Pratt.

Cloudy (no views) but calm day with snow flurries once in awhile.
