Winter Scramble - Pratt Mountain (winter)

Party of 9 successfully summited Prat Mountain on 1/14/17.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • As a party of 9 we did summit Pratt Mountain on Saturday, 1/14/17 via Granite Mountain TH (exit 47). We left TH at 7:15, had nice trail broken up to Olallie Lake and from there breaking trail towards the ridge was on us and pretty straight forward. The cruxy move around the big bolder loaded with snow and holding a big cornice was easily managed by the group skirting it on its right.

Temperatures were in teens when we started (7:15 AM) and also up on the ridge, "thanks" to crazy wind chill. Blue skies and clear, amazing views from the ridge made this  outing very enjoyable. Road to Pratt Lake Trail head is well plowed and icy. Would not recommend taking 2wd there. Total time was slightly over 7 hours car to car (including 15-20 minutes lunch and two stops at Olallie lake).
