Intermittent snow from Longmire up to the Rampart Ridge and then snow the rest of the way up to Mildred Point. We put on snowshoes at 5,200 feet. A fair amount of blowdown around the 4,800 foot level.
Sprinkles in the morning turned to light rain in the afternoon.
Our group of 7 met at Longmire at 8am. After introductions and discussing our plan for the day, we headed north on the Wonderland Trail. There were pockets of snow up to the Comet Falls Trail intersection at 4,800 feet, but nothing of any concern.
We continued up the Comet Falls Trail. Once around 4,700 feet, we experienced a fair amount of fallen trees and logs that we had to navigate either over or around. Once clear of that area, we continued up the trail to around 5,200 feet. Our group began post holing so we put on our snowshoes there and headed up to the Van Trump/Mildred Point intersection.

Beyond the intersection, it was a fairly easy snowshoe up the final 500 feet to Mildred Point. Mt. Rainier was mostly obscured by the clouds but we had good views of Iron, Copper, and Pyramid peaks to our north and the Tatoosh range to the south. We arrived at the summit around 12:45. We only stayed for about 15 minutes because the rain was starting to increase.

We descended the way we came up. We kept the snowshoes until we got to the blow down. Then we maneuvered our way around the hazards and had an easy descent all the way down to Longmire, arriving at the cars right at 4pm. Our car to car time clocked in at 7h 40 minutes.

For the 2025-2026 winter, if you'll be going up to Mildred Point, be aware of the fallen trees that will add to your travel time, but otherwise this ended up being an enjoyable winter scramble.
