Trip Report

Winter Scramble - Dickerman Mountain (winter

two miles up steep trail to snow level, than 2 more miles on snow shoes to the summit under blustery scattered snow showers. Great trip.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • steep but well maintained trail to about 4500 ft elevation, where route was snow covered to the summit.  Snow pack was stable but deep, up to 5 ft or more.  No avalanche conditions found, no evidence of previous avalanches on this route.

left parking lot at 7:45 with scattered showers in the morning, easing up as the day went on.  Snow showers above 4500 ft and breezy.  excellent but steep trail for 2 miles up to snow level, and snow shoe tracks to the summit along the same route as the summer trail.  reached summit at 11:45 and the weather lifted enough to get local views of nearby mountains and valleys.  All of the group returned to parking lot uneventful, by 2 pm.
