Trip Report

Thorp Mountain Lake & Lookout

8/7/15 Hiked to Thorp Lake and set up camp and ate lunch. There are a couple large campsites and lots of smaller ones. Access to the lake for water is good. After lunch, we hiked with day packs to Thorp Mt lookout, then descended to ridge and followed Kachess Ridge trail south for a mile to junction. Peaked over the ridge for a view of our campsite on the lake. Returned to lake via trail.
After dinner, walked clockwise most of the way around the lake. It is also possible to traverse below the cliffs at the west side of the lake, but definitely requires rock scramble skills so most of our party did not attempt it.
8/8/15 After a quiet a mild night, we had breakfast and packed up. Then continued around the loop (see Nicole's trip report - we were going the opposite direction) to return via Little Joe Lake. One 2.7 mile section of trail is marked 'hard to follow' on Green Trails map. We lost the trail once in a spot where the actual trail did not match the location shown on the map. We back tracked and picked up the actual trail without much trouble.
