Surf and Camping Weekend - Crescent Bay

Surfing and exploration at Crescent Beach on the Olympic Peninsula.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

The forecast was for rain mixed with snow.  The surf forecast is seldom accurate for this beach, so to determine the surf conditions, we used the app called "looking" - we went down to the beach and looked.  It was pretty flat, but by golly, we had our dry suits, head gear and gloves, so we determined to find some fun one way or the other.  Our leader was a local and, based on the tides and other factors, predicted that we might have some surfable waves late morning and early afternoon.  We decided to bide our time and do a short paddle along the coast west of Crescent Bay while we awaited developments.  We set out heading west from the Bay.  20260315_100235.jpg20260315_101350.jpg

Along the coastline we found mysteries, caves, and the music of what are likely cavern troll drums.  20260315_102357.jpg20260315_102909.jpg20260315_102912.jpg

We also found a waterfall to paddle under, getting a nice rinse for our helmets and boats.  20260315_104125.jpg

Upon return to Crescent Beach the tide had come up and we found waves that, while not large or pushy, were surfable for about two hours.  20260315_114131 (1).jpg

Once again demonstrating that sea kayakers can always find something to do on the water.
