Trip Report

Sperry Peak

8/1/15:
Extreme low-snow year. All traces of snow were gone, including Lake Elan, which was completely thawed (and water was fairly warm).
Very hot sunny day; had to keep slow pace; many breaks needed including swim in the lake. Ascent was 6.5 hrs. Total trip time was 12 hrs.
Trail in perfect shape to end at outlet stream of Lake Elan.
Traversed boulders & slabs along E shore of lake, then up grassy ramp to saddle on ridge betw Vesper & Sperry. Followed distinct climbers trail along spine of ridge to talus basin at ~5300'. From this point follow faint braided trails in talus to base of large white diagonal slab. From this point follow braided climbers trails in brush on S side of ridge to summit (generally we found the braids to the climber's right to be better [less brushy]).
Summit has astounding views with steep drop-offs.
Summit was absent a summit register - would be nice to add one.
