Trip Report

South Early Winter Spire/South Arête

06/28/2015 A group of 8 left TH at 6, started climbing the first pitch at 8, saw a lot of goats at the base. First rope got to the top of the 3rd pitch and waited for the second rope. The 4 of us scrambled and set up a fixed line at the whale back. A student on the 4th rope had a little difficulty with some scramble moves and a rope leader was able to talk her through. The whole group got to the summit around 11:30 and enjoyed the view. The descent was uneventful except some brief holdups waiting for the upcoming traffic. The 70m rope comes handy for the second rappel. Back to trail head at 3 and made it to cascadian farm for ice cream.
We didn't encounter the 10-ft section of snow aforementioned by Sherrie. Either it melted or we took a different trail. I was able to approach with a pair of minimalist running shoes without getting my feet wet.
