Sourdough Mountain (winter)

Beautiful weather on Feb 22nd trip. No snow until after crossing ridge at ~4200' with continuous snow above ~4800'. Narrow spot in ridge at ~5600' is ~30' of exposed rock instead of the snow slope normally found here. Due to bad runout on both sides we used our 30m rope for a short hip belay from above on both ascent as well as descent. Left cars at ~8am, reached summit at 1:30pm, and returned to cars just before 6pm. Good step kicking conditions to ~5600', then snowshoes above for mixture of windblown drifts followed by ice hard crust. Photos by Sergey, Tom, and Eve can be found at:
