Ski touring workout - Snoqualmie Summit East

Nighttime workout with clear weather and a full moon

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Coverage is now sufficient.
Grooming and hazard marking by the Hyak ski patrol over the weekend made for decent conditions.
We ascended following the Summit's designated uphill route.   With the lifts not spinning,  often I will ascend directly up Hyak face -- however with the firm snow conditions I choose the longer route to avoid any sections where ski crampons would have been desirable.    We descended via "Sarah's" and "Chikamin" runs.   Conditions skiing these runs was suprisingly pleasant with a smooth surface and no refrozen balls of snow stuck to the surface (death cookies)    When we reached the intersection with the uptrack -- one person said they weren't up for a second lap,  so we skied to the base together (despite their protests that they would be OK skiing out alone) and called it good.    A second lap without them would have only had 2 people -- not really adequite for safety.
