SIG Conditioner with a focus on off trail travel & basic snow travel skills. A summit was not the goal of our day.

We took the winter route in what is amounting to be a non-existence winter. A great idea when seeking ample opportunities for learning the finer points of bush whacking. Leaving the Annette Lake trail at 3200' we followed an E to SE baring towards the NW ridge of Silver crossing into the small basin at the 4600' level. There we found a nice bowl to practice basic snow travel skills. Upon gaining the ridge we encounter snow and ice cover talus. We stopped just before the step on the ridge at 5000' and turned around. We descended the way we came and rejoined the trail 15 yards away from where we had originally departed it. A fun day of stitching together some basic back country skills.
