September Hikes: 4 to 8 miles, 750 to 2,000 feet gain - Talus Loop via Teneriffe Trailhead

Get a different view of the perennially popular Mount Si on the Talus Loop Trail. A little over 5 miles long, the Talus Trail explores the eastern slopes of the mountain. You'll hike briefly with the crowds headed to the haystack, then peel off and enjoy a much quieter forest walk, along with a good workout.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Soft tread for most of the hike.  Changes to rocky/rooty with sharp drop offs on the outside edge when the trail get a little thin and not as maintained.

We did a "lollipop" loop from the Teneriffe trailhead. It was warm, some smoke and unusually humid today. We like this approach to Teneriffe trail proving a nice view point on the Talus loop.

We started up the Teneriffe connector, took the Teneriffe road past the Roaring Creek trail another 0.3 miles or so to the short trail called the Spring trail, which connects to the Talus loop. Stayed/ascended on the upper half of the Talus loop, lunch at the talus slope viewpoint, and then on to the main Mt. Si trail, then a short divert up to the benches etc at Snag Flat before descending the Mt. Si trail to the Roaring Creek trail which we used to get back to the Teneriffe Road/trail and back.
