Trip Report

Seattle Basic Alpine SIG Field Trip - Rock Climbing - Vantage (Frenchman Coulee)

Warm weather made for fun climbing despite extra winds!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • No signs of lingering snow/ice near camp or The Feathers.  Winds were intense (>20 mph gusts), enough to knock you off balance and create sand blasts unfriendly to eyes (even with glasses) and exposed lunches.  Multiple tents suffered casualties with broken poles, etc.  A tent was seen flying across camp.  Even tents that remaining upright and in place suffered a coating of dust/dirt to the interiors.  Most overnighters were in vehicles.

Usual story about the toilets.  They are full.  Toilet paper was stocked Fri, but gone by Saturday.

    Broken tent

We started at 7a and had The Feathers to ourselves until around 8:30a.

Loose / questionable anchor bolts at Chicken Fingers, next to the chimney at the far right on the south side.
