Tim and I launched approx 1015 against a 2 knot current, and head for the back eddy on the east side of the bridge. The light wind became stronger as we rounded the points opposite Squaxin Island and the wind and waves rose steadily as we continued mid channel with the current now with us.  However, we were only making 2 knots and by 1130 with 17 miles to go we decided to head back to the launch point in the steadily deteriorating conditions, arriving at 1230 and completing 8 miles. Some professional fishermen hauled out behind us at the boat launch and reported that they also had to abandoned their plans due to the 3-4’ waves on the east side of the island.
