Scramble - Three Brothers

An enjoyable easy scramble to the Three Brothers, a ridge located in the far western area of the Teanaway. The ridge has three non-technical peaks of which the western one at 7,303 feet is considered the high point. This summit counts toward the Mountaineers Teanaway 20 peaks award.

  • We started and finished on the Stafford Creek trail. The trail starts out with the first mile or so having little gain. The trail is well travelled and maintained. As this was late August , all of the snow had melted away and was not an issue.

Start time was 8:00 AM and we were back to the car at 6:00 PM. Estimated total distance about 14.5 miles and 5,200 feet total cumulative gain.

Leave the Stafford Creek trail just before a small creek crossing and the first obvious campsite. Elevation unknown. Follow the clearly visible climber's trail up to the ridge top and then ascend up to Freedom Peak (6,027'). The climber's path is faint at times but is visible. The path  down will take you down into another drainage. Follow it straight up the ridge to summit of  western peak of Three Brothers. We had a nice day with great views throughout the area.

We returned by way of Navaho Pass and Stafford Creek trail. All in all a long fun day hiking in the Teanaways.
