Scramble - Mount Baldy

A great ‘rainy day’ alternate on the eastern slopes of the Cascades, with sweeping vistas of Lake Kachess and Cle Ellum Lake.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Substantial ‘high center hazard’ snow on the road caused us to park near the Kachess Dam Road intersection.  The trail had intermittent snow until the flattening at ~3500’ where it became continuous.  Snowshoes stayed on the packs the entire trip.

Surprisingly good weather with intermittent sun breaks, yet brisk winds kept us well clothed most of the day.  As always, the vista at ~3500’ was stunning (Lake Kachess and the Silver Creek valley):

An unexpectedly good day in the mountains.  Photos can be seen here.
