Trip Report

Sam Hill (Leavenworth)

June 30, 2015, Seattle Scrambling Rock FT make-up:
Left 1270' parking area and crossed Icicle Road at 9:00 AM, hiked E to warm up, instruct, and practice technique on Sam Hill's southern outcrops. Covered climbing with eyes, hand holds, use of full range of motion with arms and legs, downclimbing face-out and face-in, layback, undercling, manteling, friction, smearing, and stemming. Had students lead us NW across mini-valley to talus field, climbed that to slab, set up arm-wrap rappel station, then found a grassy, shady place for lunch at noon.
After lunch, climbed up and down 30' T5 pitch protected by Klemheist loop on glacier rope before student-led scramble to 1840' Top of Course. Back to cars at 4:00 PM.
