Sahale Peak/Quien Sabe Glacier

Basic Glacier with SIG preference. 9 BCC students--many first-timers, but all competent. One day climb, left TH at 445,Summit at 1130, All down on Sahale Glacier at 430, Cars at 7-730. Took lots of time on the descent and on the summit. (12 in climbing group with 3 other climbers in between.) Near perfect conditions, crampons used on glacier, but not needed. Soft snow on the ridge difficult to protect--used 3 "confidence pickets." Recommend fixed line and prusiks for final scramble. Not as popular with first-timers as a belay, but much faster and equally safe. No issues with river crossings, crevasses just starting to open up made for very safe but piquant crossing. Direct route still exceptionally accessible for confident climbers. We took the 39 switchbacks route from the pass, but also consider the scramble route from cascade pass for much faster descent. Exceptionally beautiful climb on a blue-sky day with a surprising lack of other climbers.
