Saddlebag Island

A tour of 5 islands on a warm sunny Labor Day weekend with lots of wildlife and boat traffic.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

Launched from Seafarer's Memorial Park by the marina in Anacortes at 9:15am (good beach to launch from, free parking, no launch fees).  Paddled around Cap Sante, crossed Guemes Channel to Guemes Island, rounded Southeast Point and landed on gravel beach on SW corner of Huckleberry Island (day use only).  Paddled north and landed briefly on gravel beach in Boat Harbor (WA Dept Fish & Wildlife) on Guemes Island.  Paddled back south towards Huckleberry around north and east sides of Saddlebag Island and landed on sandy beach in south cove (State Park camping available - no water).  Explored Saddlebag Island.  Paddled around west and south sides of Dot Island, to north end of Hat Island, around east and south sides of Hat Island and across Anacortes Bay back to Seafarer's Memorial Park by approx 2:40pm.  Approx 9.2 nm.

Had to dodge lots of boat traffic on this sunny 75 degree Labor Day Saturday.  Saw lots of seals, eagles and heron.
