Ruth Mountain & Icy Peak Traverse

The climb of Ruth/Icy was scheduled for July 5&6. Because of weather we did not make the summit of Icy but our party of eight did make the summit of Ruth.
We encountered snow below Hannegan Pass. Two stream crossings on the way up to the pass required extra care because of thin snow bridges. After Hannegan Pass we were on snow the entire way except for the flat area just before starting up Ruth. The weather began to deteriorate after Hannegan Pass and once past Peak 5930 there was a strong wind with intermittent fog and rain.
We could not see the upper half of Ruth when we arrived at its base. Rather than risk having to find a campsite on the other side of Ruth's summit in deteriorating conditions we elected to camp on the flat area at the base of Ruth. We melted snow for water. The rain stopped by early morning, but because of fog/clouds, visibility was no more than 200 feet. At that point we elected to try for Ruth before calling it quits. We found Ruth's summit in the fog and after taking a couple of pictures against the white screen of fog we followed our tracks back to camp and home. Luckily the rain held off until we were almost back to the trailhead.
