Trip Report

Ruth Mountain & Icy Peak Traverse

Conditions on Ruth are currently fantastic--quite ideal as a friendly and inviting intro to glacier climb. We encountered a short section of 20 degree glacier ice for fun and easy crampon practice, intentionally crossed a tame crevasse for some sporty experience making the step across, and had options to discuss for route finding practice. While this climb is short and simple, it has more open crevasses on it than is typical (all mellow and easy to navigate) and is a prime instructional climb.

We only climbed Ruth Mt. Party of 12 left the cars at 6:10 a.m.; were on the summit just before noon; returned to the cars at 6:00 p.m.

The pizza at the North Fork Beer Shrine is excellent.
