Trip Report

Ruth Mountain & Icy Peak Traverse

Climbed Ruth & Icy June 21-22. Snow bridges along the trail to Hannegan Pass are rapidly melting out, which created a few hazardous crossings. However, with a few more warm days these should all be melted out for safer stream crossing. Snow covered up to the base of Hannegan Pass. No exposed crevasses on Ruth or Icy, still significant snow. There is significant rockfall hazard on the short rock-scramble down the gully to get to Icy from Ruth. Recommend keeping team together and moving people out of the way quickly. Several rocks were kicked down from Icy summit scramble. Take care to keep people waiting at the bottom well away from the fall line. Several small rocks and some baseball-sized rocks were kicked down (without incident).
