Ideal weather and very workable tides. As far as we got, the route conditions were aligned with published descriptions.
Five months of planning and the stars had aligned for a great trip. I had received my preferred permit/reservations for ideal campsites. The forecast called for no rain, light winds, and temps in the 60's. The tides were favorable and we had 10 days of dry weather leading up to the trip leaving the overland trails in the best possible conditions we could expect. I had a strong co-leader and used permission required to screen participants. Everyone was aware of the difficulties of the trip and agreed that they were ready for them.
We got cars positioned at both ends of the trail and made an easy journey of our trip to Shi Shi Beach. Before breakfast on day 2, a member of the trip refused to continue on the next phase of the journey, and as the leader, I turned the trip around.
We were able to do a limited second night after driving to the Ozette trailhead instead of hiking through the Point of Arches was a disappointment, we missed both the crux of the trip and the most scenic sections. of the trail.
