Mount Townsend & Welch Peaks

Left the Townsend trailhead at approximately 9:30 a.m. Nice easy pace all day. Trail to Camp Windy was snow free. Lots of snow at camp though; intermittent on trails above. From the trail going over ridge to Silver Lake we ascended ridge to Welch Peaks staying on the ridge or slightly right of the ridge. It was free of snow. Fun, easy scramble. Summitted at 12:30 p.m. Descended route, bypassing our intersection of the Silver Lake trail and ascended, mostly on right side of ridge towards Townsend. Found trail leading approximately 200' feet to intersect the last switchback of the trail going to Townsend. Followed easy trail to the summit (2:30 p.m.). Back to cars by 4:00 p.m. Stopped at the Twana Café in Quilcene, which has always had great food. But today we were treated with a mandolin/ukulele open mike night. There were at least 10-15 participants--really fun and great music! They hold this event every 3rd Thursday starting between 5 and 5:30 p.m.
