Mount Si Old Trail

3-8-16--This was originally posted as a winter scramble of Red Mountain (Snoqualmie Pass). But with a bump in avy hazards to considerable for the SW Cascades and Red's history we diverted to Mt Si via the old trail. We intended to do a traverse over to Dixie and Tenerife but were not prepared with route descriptions. We went up to the bench below the Si summit and then traversed NE and summited two peaks later identified (by Peakbagger) as Blowdown Mountain and Crater Lake Mountain. There was 4-6 inches of new snow. We had ice axes and crampons but needed neither. This was a fun alternative/addition to Mt Si. We followed the old road east from Mt Si to just SE of Blowdown Mountain where we followed the ridge to the summit. From there we traversed west and then NW down the ridge and on to Crater Lake Mountain. On our descent we back tracked to just west of Blowdown Mountain and then descended south to rejoin our up track to follow back down Mt Si old trail. Very enjoyable outing. I believe we were at 4,000'+ elevation gain and 8+ miles. Time 8:15.
