Trip Report

Mount Shuksan/Fisher Chimneys

Climb dates: 6/20-21/2015.
No snow before and in the chimneys except for a small patch below the first and another patch to cross below the second. Camped above Winnie's Slide and it took us about 5 hours to get there. Running water at the edge of Upper Curtis Glacier. Next morning we started at 3:30am. Crossing of Upper Curtis and Sulphide Glaciers was straightforward with very few crevasses open. Started up the summit pyramid at 5am. The main gully still had some snow patches so we scrambled it in crampons alternating between rock and hard snow and placing pickets and rock pro as running belay. Reached the summit by 6:30am. Getting off the pyramid involved 3 single strand 30m rappels for students with leaders down climbing. Off the pyramid by 9am and back to camp by 10:30am, out of camp by 11:30am. Down climbed the chimneys with 1 rappel of the short steep corner section. Back to cars by 5:30pm. Overall the route was in excellent shape and we had a very strong team.
