Trip Report

Mount Constitution Scramble

Weather consolation conditioner (14 miles/4000’) and cross country navigation practice with the beautiful forests and lakes of Moran State Park on Orcas Island.

  • Sun, Oct 22, 2017
  • Moran State Park
  • Scrambling
  • Successful
  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Ground was snow free with breezy mist/drips in the morning, a brief break in the clouds near the summit, and heavy afternoon rain during the cross country travel.

A great day considering the weather falling elsewhere, plus the leisurely ferry rides coming and going allowed for lots of conversation and conversion to ‘island time’. Cross country portion started from the intersection of the trail ascending from the Mountain Lake boat ramp to the Little Summit trail at ~1950’. From this intersection we used compass bearings to reach the False Summit before returning to trail travel. Encountered ~20 trail runners partaking in a competition during the course of the day. Total time was ~6 hours. Photos from this and other trips can be seen  here.
